We tackle mental health inequities...

In Hackney, where SWIM is based, people from ACH communities make up 40% of the population yet they account for 90% of all admission to mental health wards. The treatment is often reliant on medication and much less likely to be based on talking therapies.

The same pattern is repeated around the country in areas with large ACH communities.

We are working with mental health services to model culturally sensitive pathways that improve access to talking therapies. We are supporting their staff to identify and fix systemic shortcomings that result in over-reliance on anti-psychotic medication and secure settings when referring people from ACH communities.

Additionally, we are providing programmes of psychosocial interventions to new clients that are helping to reduce the mistrust and stigma associated with mental health services in their communities.

Peter was responsible for implementing the update EMIS and SystmOne clinical system to accept 111 direct appointment booking during surgery hours from 111 providers. Peter displayed numerous strengths including excellent communication and engagement skills with a range of stakeholders including Local Medical Committees, clinical leads, practice managers and senior management teams. His core skill is his work ethics and ability to overcome challenges and obstacles.
